This is a series of 130 works, produced between 1998 and 2004, which present a recurring theme: that of a lion watching over a sleeping couple.
Text by Jean-Paul Perrenx: "Invariably, obstinately, I will go there in time, in the distant time of the hand that tirelessly makes the gesture. The gesture of my sleepers in the grass, and of an impassive lion with an enigmatic look. I don't want to change anything, to move anything. And my hand paints almost on tiptoe. But shhh... In my story, I remain moored to the same canvas, it is deliberate. I stop time because I already know the end. It is at the beginning. It's the eternal beginning. Perhaps in a thousand canvases, I will repaint them in the other direction, I will reverse the order of things, the titles, the dates, my name and I don't know what else. There is only the colour, My colour, The colours that shake up this frail concept a little.
